Double tournament of Navarre 1594, Saint-Palais. (Henri IV, by the grace of God, king of the French and the Navarrese). Bust of Henri IV to the right, laurel-crowned and armored, with a small flat collar.

Below the bust: the shield of Navarre. Three lilies arranged 2 and 1. References: Duplessy 1280 - Sombart 4196. The double tournament of Navarre was only minted for three years, from 1593 to 1595.

Stéphan Sombart, in the FRANCIAE IV, reports having seen a total of 11 specimens, including 4 for the year 1594. The CGB website presents one for the year 1594, in a condition quite close to the present example, rated TTB. Copper 18.5 to 20 mm - 3.50 g. Irregular flan, oblong in shape, with a somewhat grainy appearance. Although the flan is short in some places, the legends remain fully legible, both on the obverse and reverse, which is rare for the double tournaments of Navarre that are rather coarsely made.

The central motifs are quite clear, with regular wear on the highest points of the reliefs. I am selling part of my collection: be sure to check out my other items! Shipment will be by registered mail with acknowledgment of receipt.
