Exceptional for knowledgeable collectors - Very rare for sale. The Schoenfeld piece is one of these extremely rare remnants of the monetary system of the estate that existed in Mauritius. This coin was only in circulation on the Schoenfeld sugar estate. The estate currency was essentially a geographically localized currency that could only be used within the boundaries of a particular estate and nowhere else. Thus, the indentured laborers who could not use this means of payment outside of the estate where they worked were forced to spend everything within the estate premises.
