Very beautiful silver denier of the kaletedoy type with a half wheel (Rare) [Lingons]. Feel free to contact for any questions - additional pictures. 2nd - 1st centuries BC. On the reverse, the wheel is incomplete; it is actually a half wheel, like on the 3197, which is very similar to the one offered here, both for the obverse and the reverse. This variant is rare; it represents only about 3 to 4% of the coinage! 2nd - 1st century BC. The territory of the Lingons was very vast, straddling the current department of Haute-Marne and part of Côte d'Or, Yonne, and Aube.

Their capital was located in Langres. They were surrounded by the Sequanes, Mandubians, Leuques, Remes, Suessions, Senons, and Eduens. It was one of the largest civitas in Gaul.

Langres, which has retained their name, seems to have been one of their oppida. Allies of the Romans, they did not participate in the War.

The Helvetii, during their retreat after the defeat at Bibracte, crossed the territory of the Lingons. And in 52 BC, they did not send emissaries, did not join the revolt, and did not participate in the relief army sent to Vercingetorix. On the other hand, in 51 BC, they provided a cavalry contingent to the Romans to fight the Bellovaci and the Belgians. They therefore remained loyal to the Roman alliance.
